#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

Jesus is King – Kanye West

It’s out. It’s really finally out!

Rules – Doja Cat

Doja continues to drop new tracks paired with unique and fire visuals. With an album dropping November 7th the promo run continues with this one which features a smooth bounce and guitar riffs as Doja flows through different inflections and tones with her voice.

Trina – Smino

Smino links up with the hottest producer (Woah Kenny!!) out right now for easy going yet technically crafted single.

No Patience – Swizz Beatz x Pusha T

Push continues to bring his drug dealer tales full circle by taking them to TV show soundtracks. This one is a part of Godfather of Harlem which stars Forest Whitaker in the lead role.  This one features Swizz on hook duty (and ad-libs naturally) as well as production. Menacing and gritty for sure.

OCD – Logic feat. DWN2EVRTH

Logic shows he still knows how to make a good song after letting fans like me down consistently. Over an atmospheric and somber beat he discusses the pressures in his life including his celebrity status and all that comes with it. The chorus blends well with the theme and production and if he continues in this direction things are definitely looking better for him.

Cry – Cigarettes After Sex

Had to put this one here in honor of my boss/our EIC. VERY chill and somber project that you can fall asleep or relax to.

Other Drops

Ride or Die – Megan Thee Stallion x VickeeLo

Real Life – ABISHA

Godfather 4 – Dave East feat. Nas

DAYS B4 3 – Lucki

Blood Bath – Shy Glizzy & Pressa

Trigger – Khalid ft. Major Lazer

I Was Depressed Until I Made This – KembeX

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

Whole Lotta Red – Playboi Carti

Woptober 2 – Gucci Mane

Yesterday was 10/17 but Gucci’s legend status lets him miss an easy marketing move like that. Maybe it would just be too expected or he’s set on a Friday release. The first Woptober dropped in 2016 and was his second post jail drop. This sequel comes after a slew of other releases and like all sequels we’re to see if it’s worth it. Given Gucci’s recent comments about being able to do an album in “one day” and not wanting to “hold the music” are we surprised at his quick output rate? Where are our expectations for this project?

Bad Name – Gang Starr

Family and Loyalty with Cole was a sleeper hit and gave us one of Cole’s best verses this year. This new single also engages the classic duo with the new generation of rappers however this time it’s definently more of a critique. The most interesting part is we will never know when Guru’s verses were recorded but they can still apply today.

Other Drops

First Class – Blueface ft. Gunna

Stacked – Kash Doll

World on Fire – 24HRS

Statue of Limitations – Smoke DZA x Benny The Butcher x Pete Rock

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

Puppets (Succession Remix) – Pusha T x Nicholas Brittell

Push has dropped two singles this year with an album on the way. This one is more of a “bonus” as it features him rapping over the theme to the HBO show Succession. A verse from Push is always appreciated and this level of promo means the album is even closer.

Plan of Attack – Curren$y x Trademark x Young Roddy

Jet Life is in full effect for this collab project. And, being that these are THEE founders of the label you can expect their signature sound all over this album. Smooth. Jazz. Cruisin (and of course smoking) music.

Wow…That’s Crazy – Wale

Wale has been quite active on Twitter lately and this album title ties into his thoughts perfectly. People have wanted music from him and now it’s here.

9 – Lil Kim

With all the debates of who the best female rapper going around Lil Kim is here to show why she’s in the conversation and let anyone who doesn’t know why she is know they’re missing out.

Twisted – French Montana ft Juicy J and Logic

Based on the fact Montana and Juicy J are on this track you can take a good guess at what it sounds like. However, the Logic feature…is something you’ll probably hate if you’ve been a longtime listener or even if you haven’t. Definitely one for the clubs and the only place for it.

Other Drops

AI Youngboy 2 – NBA Youngboy

Head In The Clouds 2 – 88 Rising

Big Stepper – Roddy Rich

Ego Check – Wyne feat. J.I.D

Golden Child – YK Osiris

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

Another night of variety. Let’s get into it.

Over It – Summer Walker

This is easily the most anticipated album of the night. With an already iconic album cover and a intersting viral interview Summer Walker’s album rollout has been a great one. As the fall approaches music like this sets the tone for the cooler coming months.

uknowhatimsayin¿ – Danny Brown

Sporting a new look and a new show Danny is here to continue his comeback. The singles have been unique both audio and visual wise and the full album should continue the trend. Easily the most unique project out of all the choices we have today

Highest in the Room – Travis Scott

Much like the “Drop AstroWorld” comments that flooded Travis’ mentions last year the “Drop Highest in the Room” ones have taken its place this year. The single has finally arrived along with physical versions with multiple covers and versions to choose from. Many speculate this could be the lead single for a solo project or a compilation project for his label.

Indigo (Extended Edition) – Chris Brown

10 new songs added on to the already 32 track long album.

Euphoria: The Official Score – Labrinth

The soundtrack to the most popular show of the summer has officially arrived. Scored by Labrinth, the sounds and pulses of the show can now be enjoyed and relived anytime you want. Perfect studying/working music

Other Releases

Big Booty – Gucci Mane feat. Meg Thee Stallion

EARFQUAKE (Remix) – Channel Tres

Truth Is – Sabrina Claudio

El Negreeto – Akon

Bandit – Juice WRLD & NBA YoungBoy

Superstar – Majid Jordan

Alone – Dave East feat. Jacquees

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

 Kirk – DaBaby

DaBaby’s last album was in a lot of people’s rotation at the top of this year and he looks to ensure he ends the year the same way. AFter multiple features and landing a XXL Freshman spot – and a feature with Lil Nas X, this is his time to prove himself. With “INTRO” discussing everything he’s experienced up to this point we’ll see if the rest of the album carries the same weight.

HERstory in the Making – Young M.A.

Some would say Young M.A fell off but that’s not true at all. As many like to quote “Chess not checkers” After blowing up in 2016 with “OOOUU” and dropping a batch of singles this year and last and an EP she’s now here with her debut album. If her freestyle on Hot 97 is any indicator, this is definitely not one to miss.

Other Drops

Slide – H.E.R feat. YG

I’m Him – Kevin Gates

Writing on the Wall – French Montana ft. Cardi B & Post Malone

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

We’ve got music from people we haven’t new music from in a minute today. Let’s get into to it.

All My Heroes Are Cornballs – JPEGMAFIA

If the song titles on this project don’t pull you in out of curiosity, then maybe the music is too much for you. After dropping Veteran last year, Peggy is back with the high energy and unique and abrasive production.

Behind Barz Freestyle – Drake

This is his freestyle from Link Up Tv from 2018 but unlike mostly anyone in the game he’s made it officially available on streaming services. It’s also included in the soundtrack for the upcoming season of the Netflix show “Top Boy”,

Panini (Remix) feat. DaBaby

Lil Nas X knows his brand and knows it well. We knew this was coming but the real question is how many more will we get?

Other Drops

Sinner – 24Hrs

Mood Swings – A Boogie Wit The Hoodie

Suicide Doors – French Montanna feat. Gunna

Richer Than Everybody – Gucci Mane feat. DaBaby and NBA Youngboy

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

Another Friday, another batch of releases – with variety.

Mirrorland – EARTHGANG

After standout performances on ROTD 3, EARTHGANG is here with their debut album from longtime listeners and anyone who found them via the compilation project. The duo carries a natural organic soul about them and this project looks to set them a part from the rest. With a tracklist reveal done via tarot cards this project will definitely be in its own lane.

Hollywood’s Bleeding – Post Malone

Post is back and with the features he has on this album its not one to skip. Collaborating with the likes of Future, Halsey, Meek Mill, Travis Scott Ozzy Osbourne and more this will be an interesting listen for sure. Post has taken a dark approach to the rollout with the preview, art style and cover and perhaps the music will follow this same lane. However, his Swae Lee collaboration “Sunflower” is on here for obvious reasons so we will see how the full project comes out.

Ghostface Killahs – Ghostface Killah

Wu-tang. Nothing else needed.

Dirty Laundry – Danny Brown

Danny has one of those voices and personalities you either love or hate. His music has always been that way too and this single off the new album follows the same pattern.

Other Drops

Sounds of the Skeng – Stormzy

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

We’ve got another good group this Friday. Let’s get into it.

Norman Fucking Rockwell! – Lana Del Rey

Ms. Del Ray has been dropping singles for this project since last year. While she dropped too many from my own personal preference, it doesn’t change the fact that I am super hype to have the full project now. As a new fan who went through her discography prior to this release, I am eager to hear even more cinematic, layered and emotional greatness from her.

Chasing Summer – SiR

SiR is TDE’s secret weapon. He’s got a smooth voice and drops projects more consistently than his labelmates. On this one he’s got features from Kendrick, Lil Wayne, Jill Scott and more. He also handles the production on some tracks in addition to equally recognizable names. The lead single for this one had summer vibes for sure but I have a feeling there will be some tracks for the fall on here too.

I Used To Know Her – H.E.R

H.E.R’s recent live performances have all blown me away. After releasing multiple EPs, this looks to be her first full length project with completely new music.

 Let Love – Common

A legend. I needn’t say more.

KickingTheBucket – Bones

Some of y’all probably just hit me with the Snoop Dogg “Who???” GIF and that’s understandable. Just know this is one of my favorite artists of all time and there are multiple styles to be found on this project. Trap, boom bap, 80s synthpop (yes) acoustic and more.

Other Drops

Circles – Post Malone

Monday – Joell Ortiz

Bare With Me – Justine Skye

Graduation – Benny Blanco & Juice WRLD

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

The ending of summer is getting closer and we may some potential AOTY contenders dropping right before we move into the fall vibes. Let’s get into it.

ICONOLOGY – Missy Elliott

We found out about this only yesterday. But it’s here now. Just press play.

BROCKHAMPTON’s music has always been in its own lane. With multiple members in the group and layered production complete with switch ups and vocal pitching their song structure is pretty much unpredictable. After dropping four singles along with videos for each one over a 4 week period the full project has arrived. As I said if you’re looking for something different from what you’re used to this is the album you want.

Eve – Rapsody

Rapsody is continuing the domination of black female rappers this year and doing it in her very own way. She has said this project is a dedication to black women and based on the track titles she hit the nail on the head. With features from D’Angelo, JID, J. Cole, Elle Varner and even Queen Latifah this is sure to be a special project for multiple reasons.

85 To Africa – Jidenna

With one of the most authentic and creative promo runs in recent memory Jidenna has returned with his first project since 2017. This one looks to blend as many genres as his previous ones and this is always commendable.

Other Drops

Playing Games – Summer Walker

Back and Forth – Joy Postell

Ghetto Lenny’s Love Songs – SAINt JHN

Life is Beautiful – Powers Pleasant

TM104: The Legend of the Snowman – Jeezy

#NewMusicFriday: What You Need To Hear

Today is stacked. Let’s not waste any time.

So Much Fun – Young Thug

Prior to release many people said this would be Thugger’s best project to date. This is mostly due to the success of “The London” his biggest single yet (where he was not a feature) With summer coming to a close, it would great if he could end it with a bang.

Control The Streets Vol. 2 – Quality Control

The meme about Quality Control having no quality control is bound to cycle back through the TL with this 36 track release. Of course all the artists from the label have songs here with their labelmates as well as with outside features from Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Young Thug, Megan Thee Stallion and more. I’m sure there are some hits on here…they just have to be found amongst the pile.

Floor Seats – A$AP Ferg

This project is an EP with a total of only 9 tracks. Ferg does what he does best on it, delivering high energy tracks with just the perfect amount of bounce on a few of them.

Hot August Nights – Curren$y

This project has exactly what you’d expect it to. Smooth samples, smooth flows and verses about weed, cars, loyalty and growth. Curren$y knows what he enjoys putting out and continues to do it at a much faster rate than everyone else.

I Wanna Thank Me – Snoop Dogg

Albums from Snoop at this point are anticipated in their own way but most listens will come from pure curiosity. We all know Snoop has touched several genres at this point but on this one it looks like he’s chosen to touch on several subject matters including some history on Death Row Records, his legacy and the legacy of hip hop itself and more.

Motivation – Normani

Normani channels the early 2000s we all know and love with this one. But is she hitting or missing with this nostalgia approach?

Other Releases

– Ugh, those feels again – Snoh Aalegra

Hot For Me – Jacquees feat. Lil Keed & Lil Gotit

Be Honest – Jorja Smith feat. Burna Boy

Almighty So 2 – Chief Keef
